The usual fasteners employed in this application are stainless steel self-tapping or sheet-metal screws. The size is chosen to be appropriate for the equipment to be mounted. A battery switch would probably be fastened with a #8 screw. A battery hold down with a larger screw, perhaps a #12.The console is constructed of a fiberglass laminate and does not have a a foam interior.
The battery should only be located in an area which as been reinforced to bear the weight of the battery. The area will also have imbedded material which will be capable of holding a screw. It is a good idea to use a bedding compound or sealant or caulk on any fastener which penetrates the laminate structure of your boat and will be exposed to water, although Boston Whaler themselves does not follow that rule in all cases. Using 3M/5200 is probably not necessary. 3M/5200 is a very strong adhesive and takes about a week to cure. I generally use a generic brand of "boat caulk".
