I just bought a new Sunbrella boat cover and will have my boat in a busy marina in Southern California for the summer, does anyone have any thoughts on painting the boat idenification #'s on the cover, would that deter a walk by thief, I know if someone wants it they will get it but if it helps I would do it...

How would I do it, is this a weekend job or should I leave to the pro's?

I can't say this would work for you but it work(s) for me...being a teacher, (formely woodshop) a day doesn't go by when I don't need to "pick something up for my kids"...for the larger things...I usually write..."property of....." on it with bold magic marker...even when I get things from school I usually "mark my territory" by using that same marker to write my school and name on it...you'd be surprised how effective that can be...not sure if that is what you're looking for but I found that people generally want "like new" stuff and if it's defaced in any way...they usually leave it a lone...I might not put my boat numbers on it but my name...or something a little more obvious...

Good luck...

DaveS
