I recently purchased a used boat with the 2000 Merc Bigfoot motor (3 carb, no EFI). I have 2 problems. 1. The choke doesn't work when I push the key so I'm assuming I need to change the electric enricher on the top carb. It doesn't click when I push in the key but I have been able to start it fairly easy when cold. 2. The motor runs perfect at start up, idle, mid-range. However, when I approch the very top end...it starts to miss out like it's starved for fuel. It happens at 4900 rpm and if I back it down a tad, it run fine but I'm missing about 5 mph. Any thoughts? |

Start with fuel filter and plugs. Yes even 4 strokes need plugs now and then. |
