I have an 82 Outrage outfitted a 200HP Yamaha outboard using Yamaha guages. Recently the fuel gauge stopped working...started with intermitent signals and then stopped all together. The top of the fuel tank is located directly below the center console so getting to it is very difficult. I managed to pry open the top and inspect the wires. The blue wire connected to the sending unit appears to be in good condition...but the green ground is no longer connected or mounted to the gas tank. Corrosion over the years finaly took it toll on the mounting bracket.
Does the sending unit rely on the ground in order to work? Any suggestions on how I can repair without major overhaul?
Thanks

Definitely needs that ground wire attached and no corrosion present.
