I know this has been covered before but I have a question about the structural area in the bow of the Montauk. I removed the bow eye & bolt because it appeared sloppy when I trailered it. Good thing I did becuase the bolt was fractured 2/3 of the way through. Anyhow, my question is about the structural integrity of the bow and upper chine area. I assumed this area was well supported with wood yet the inside of the hole is only foam from outside bow to above the anchor locker where the hole enteres the boat. The hole was much larger than the 1/2" bolt that goes through it so I taped the outside of the bow with electrical tape, inserted a liberal amount of west system epoxy then gently inserted a long 1/2" rod from the inside. This created a solid, sealed 1/2" hole to re-mount the bolt & bow eye.
My problem with all of this is that I am amazed that there was not solid wood in this front bow area - it seems as though it would be very weak to have a bow eye / lifting eye in the bow with only fiberglass and foam. Any thoughts?
