I have seen many post on opinions or how to for a live well on a classic Montauk. Here is my set up on my 86. I use a PF-32 Gallon kodiak oblong tank. and a 800 gph rule transom mounted pump. The intake is 3/4 and the overflow is 1 1/2. It can be removed in less than a minute when not needed. Most of my fishing is for Striped Bass so it is essential that I can keep Bunker, Shad, Porgies or whatever live bait I can get alive. It may take up some room in the back of the boat but it is worth it, nothing beats live bait! Everything can be bought at http://livebaitlarry.com

I know this is off the subject from your original post, but I think I noticed that you have a Moller gas tank under your RPS? If so, how do you like it? How many gallons. I need to replace my tank and was curious as to your thoughts. I know there has been a lot of discussion about tanks on this sight lately.

WOW looks nicley done. What does that weigh full? and why is there a shutoff valve in your out flow tube? DWS

I just got the gas tank. It seems to be fine, just has to be slid out a little to fill it.
The shut off is on the intake hose, while the boat is underway water is forced through the intake hose so when not using the tank I keep it shut off.

The gas tank is 26 gallons, $154.00 at West Marine, they sell it for $266.00 but I have a Port Supply account.

Looks great! Any thoughts on putting it forward of the console to replace the cooler and using a pump sucking water from the anchor locker scubber-drain to feed it? Weight forward for easy running and more space aft for fishing?
Moeller tanks are cheap at Cabellas, and mine came in 3 days. Recommended.

I think I can answer Dave Sutton's question regarding locating the tank forward of the console. I have the same set up in my 16'. Live bait needs the smoothest ride possible to avoid being beaten to death. A location in front of the console would take a beating in choppy seas, resulting in dead bait and wet fishermen.

That is a really nice setup. Have you fished with it yet? It will be interesting to hear how you like it and if you feel too crowded.
I made a real redneck live well using a 50-gal plastic drum cut down with a 500 GPH bilge pump hanging on a line with the hose and power cord taped to the line. To fill, you plug in the pump and hang it over the side. While running or in the fresh water I drop the pump into the tank and it recirculates the water thru a spray head. I only use it a few times a year so it serves it's purpose fine.
I like your setup much better though.

Nice set up, however, why does everyone insist on drilling holes/ mounts into the transom (esp. below the water line). Check out your bottom engine bracket bolt(or even your zinc), could have made an angle piece of alum. come straight down bend it at a 90 degrees and mount the pump to it. Another thought put a wye on your pressure line for a wash down...good luck
