On a 2000 Dauntless 16 the cigar lighter socket on the console with rubber cover has corroded on inside. I have never used it, but want it to work in case I need it for a spotlight or iPod. I cannot find a part number in the drawings for my model on whalerparts.com. Where can I find this exact part, for an easy replacement? Thanks.

West Marine. $7 plus tax.

Since the OEM part failed rather rapidly, you may not want to replace it with the "exact part." Perhaps you can find this connector in a marinized version with stainless steel or improved plating.

I was hoping to avoid a potentially frustrating trip to the dealer. I would love a part number for either the OEM part (not on the drawings) or even better, a marinized variant that someone has successfully installed in a similar instrument panel. I looked at the sockets in West Marine when I was there over the weekend but none looked like a seamless replacement.

The automotive cigar lighter and its associated plug are really an anachronism in the marine electrical connector world. Since you probably do not use the device to light cigars, perhaps changing the connector to something more appropriate for a marine application is a better solution.
I realize that there are many devices whose electrical cables terminate in a plug designed to mate with an automotive cigar lighter socket, but if your inventory of those devices is not extensive, it might be simpler to change the corresponding connectors on them to something more suitable for marine use.

Dredging up an old post because I never replaced the cigar lighter socket: I replaced the trim tab switch panel yesterday, and spent some time examining the cigar lighter socket to figure out how to remove it from the instrument panel.
The cigar lighter socket is part of the black instrument panel on my 2000 Dauntless. On the front of the panel, the socket has a rubber cap and a small metal lip. On the back of the panel I expected to find a screw-on retaining ring or something like that. All I see on the back is the metal socket cylinder. So I can't figure out how to remove the socket.
I requested advice on the Boston Whaler web site form Contact Us page. I suspect I am missing something obvious. Has anyone removed a similar socket that is part of the OEM instrument panel?

It was a long time ago, and for the same reason. From memory,
there are two cylindrical parts to the OEM socket, the inner
one that the plug makes contact with, and an outer one that
is threaded and also serves as a nut to hold the socket
in place.
Get a Marinco socket. They are much better suited to the
marine environment. They won't be $7.

Since I'm in the planning stages of my dash renovation, I'm giving serious thought to a USB charger socket. Maybe even two.

Boston Whaler responded to my inquiry. Chuck Bennett provided this information. Good customer service for a 14 year old boat.

Whaler has been using Marinco 12 V receptacles for quite sometime. Most have a screw on backing to remove it while the older ones would just clip into place. You would have to depress the clips to "pop" the receptacle out.
I don't know if the clip in style is still available. You may have to replace with the screw on type shown in the link below...

I will take a closer look at the receptacle on the back of the console instrument panel. There are definitely no threads, and the receptacle exterior is metal rather than plastic. Hopefully there are clips that I missed.
Once I figure out how to remove it, I will replace it with the Marinco receptacle linked in Chuck's response.
My Dauntless has a panel at the bow with a power socket for a trolling motor and a second cigarette lighter receptacle. That receptacle is the same Marinco receptacle.

Thanks to Chuck Tribolet for the right answer: An outer sleeve threads onto an inner sleeve. The outer sleeve covers the inner sleeve so the threading is not visible until the outer sleeve is removed. It took 30 seconds to remove. Here is a picture of the part.
