Boston Whaler does in right by using portable gas tanks on the deck. I bought a 1990 16' Wahoo! for my son to use, so I started to restore it, which includes a repower, So I figured 18 year old boat lets change the fuel lines, wasn't sure if they could handle ethanol or not. Forget about take out the old line; that was completly foam in, and the foam is as hard as concrete. So I had to cut 2 new access panel in, and using a electrical 72" drill bit, drilled a hole down the inside of the gunnels (drilled through the bilge pump discharge line; what fun!), then came through the battery box in the stern (I moved the battery to the center console). I went to the marine store 3 times, used 2 access plates, 2 thru-the hull fittings, 3/8 fuel line, ss fuel filter head, Yamaha 10 micron filter, a couple brass fittings, new primer bulb, tube of 5200, tube of silicone, 4" hole saw, 72" bit, 9- hose clamps, thread sealant, Yamaha fuel connect, bilge pump hose, nipple, ss screw's = $374 and 8 hours later, who says a built in fuel tank is a plus.

Or, you could have hooked up a portable tank in 5 minutes. That built-in tank didn't last any less longer than the built-in tanks that are only featured in larger Whalers.

The 16 wahoo is a nice boat. The biggest difference I found between a Wahoo and Whaler is the deck and cap are pop riveted together and the Wahoo had more molded features. A close friend of mine had one for many years and put many hours on the boat. He went through two 70 hp Johnsons then put a 150 Fast Strike on the back. Scary fast with the 150 and a 29 srx for a prop. He had a job in Naples Fl and would use it as transportation from Summerland Key to Naples on weekends. He just used a compass. It would take him four hours same as driving. Any way they are nice boats. There are pros and cons to everything.
