I bought a '89 Montauk and I am modifying to make more fishing and family friendly. It has beautiful custom built teak casting platform in the bow and stern (the entire bow/stern area). The need for cooler seating/cushions I've addressed in a separate thread. I just bought a used but excellent condition Rip Tide bow mount foot controlled trolling motor; 55lb, 52", 12V, with battery/box. I purchased the Minn Kota quick release bracket, battery, battery box from Gander. What is the best way to drill/mount the quickrelease bracket on the starboard side, bow area? How close to the edge shoud it go and is there a best angle? What (and what size) kind of tools, hardware (I have heard 1/4" lag bolts?), sealer/filler (I have heard West System 5200?) do I need? I want to get it right the first time with little discovery learning. Anyone have a pictures of what right looks like?

In my last montauk, the 12v battery was kept in the bow locker in a battery box and it worked great. The boat company drilled out a small hole area on the teak hatch door so the power cable could go down in without inhibiting the hatch opening and closing. I didn't install it though. Is that the best way? How should I stabilize the battery box in the bow locker? Just screw in the bettery strap guides and strap it down? Do I need some kind of sealant or West 5200 for the screws? Anyone have any photos of what right looks like? Thanks.
