I am currently rebuilding my 2000 Evinrude 225-HP Ficht. The engine has [been run] 179-hours. I had a failure of top cylinder on the starboard side, and I could not seem to find a cause. The last scan [of stored fault codes in the engine management module] revealed low battery and no oil pressure before failure. The engine seemed to have adaquate oil upon disassembly. I have purchased diagnostic software. I have heard poor things about these motors. Been OMC most of my life. Anything I should keep in mind as I put it together? I know about some of the updates. Any tips would be great. Thanks

You should determine the cause of failure before rebuilding. If the component that caused the failure is not identified and remedied, the engine will likely fail again. |

The only thing I've found is that the small line that goes into the side of the block of that cylinder was off. Can I run this on premix for awhile so that I can ensure proper oil pump function, initiate a break in program and make sure everything is properly functioning? This motor was running fine when it just quit. Thanks. |

I don't believe premix is an option. I highly recommend you get a BRP Shop Manual on the engine before entertaining the idea of doing your own rebuild. You need to understand the way the engine operates, as a minimum, before proceeding, IMO. Butch |

You would accomplish the same thing if you ran your car on premix if the oil pump didn't work, the motor would be ruined!
DFI motors such as FICHT, E-TEC, Optimax, and HPDI use pressurized oil injection to the moving parts, it does not mix with the fuel as only air goes through the crankcase, not a fuel:oil mix as in a tradtional 2-stroke. |

Seahorse (Jeff?),Please post the E-Tec 115HO/130 information here that you provided to the other sites. Probably on the "Performance" pages. If you could also post the new charcoal units with the graphics that would be of great interest, too. Obviously the links would be fine. Thanks. Butch |

You can see the new motor info at etecownersgroup.com under E-TEC discussions, or at Bassboatcentral.com in the Johnson-Evinrude forum. |
