In model years 2008 and 2009 is there any difference in an Evirude E-TEC 90-HP motor between the white motor and the blue motor, besides the color? Thanks

The steering arm assembly appears to vary among different models. The breakdown for 2008 is as follows:Steering Arm Assembly MODEL -- PART NUMBER--COLOR--SHAFT LENGTH E90DSL 5001766 WHITE 20-inch E90DPX 5001825 WHITE 25-inch E90DPL 5001908 BLUE 20-inch I don't have any information on what the difference is other than the length and the color of the paint. The part numbers are from the website epc.brp.com and the model information is from evinrude.com |

There are different part numbers for all parts which are either painted white or blue, so the fact that there is a different part number is not a reasonable basis to infer that the parts are made from different materials. For example, a white cowling has a different part number than a blue cowling, but there is no basis to assume they are made of different materials. In the case of the steering arm assembly, it would be good to get clarification on this point, as it has been often mentioned in the past that there were material differences in this part which corresponded with the paint color, with the usual inference being that the white part was made from material which was more corrosion resistant than the blue part. However, I don't see where in the literature from BRP you can find that distinction. |

Steering Arm Assembly MODEL -- PART NUMBER--COLOR--SHAFT LENGTHE90DSL 5001766 WHITE 20-inch E90DPX 5001825 WHITE 25-inch E90DPL 5001908 BLUE 20-inch I don't have any information on what the difference is other than the length and the color of the paint The white motors have cast stainless steel steering arms while the blue motors have cast steel arms. They both use the same number of stainless steel bolts and both have stainless steel tilt tubes, though. |

Thanks very much for the clarification on the material used for the steering arms on the E-TEC 90-HP motors for 2008. |

Does this same variation in the steering arm material also apply to other E-TEC models in addition to the 90-HP model? |

Guess if you were going to use the motor in saltwater, the white motor would be the smart choice. Heck. I might even call it a "Salt Water Edition" and pay a little bit more for it. Nothing worse than a rusty steering arm, after only a couple of seasons. |

Heck. I might even call it a "Salt Water Edition" Let's also make a small decal with those words and add an image of a marlin, then put on the aft part of a lower cover on a white E-TEC. |

The white Etecs are saltwater edition, the blue are fresh water. The white will run you about $100.00 more in the purchase price. Steve |
