My bilge pump died on my 1996 Outrage 19 so I replaced it this weekend with the same make and model as the original. In the course of doing so, I realized that there are two pumps, not one, in the bilge. The bilge pump is connected to the float switch and to the manual BILGE switch on the console.

The second pump in the bilge is not a bilge pump per se but the manufacturer's labeling refers to it as a wash down pump. It runs off of the PUMP-2 switch on the console. It is unclear to me where the intake hose for this second pump gets its water from since these [hoses] disappear from the bilge beneath the floor. Interestingly, this "wash down" pump does not run the saltwater wash down on my boat; the actual saltwater wash down is powered by the pump in the live well in the leaning post.

Consulting the owner's manual was no help whatsoever.

Can anyone tell me what the second pump in the bilge is designed to drain?

If there is no mention of the second pump in the owner's manual, it may be something added by a dealer or a previous owner.

If the pump is a factory original installation, Boston Whaler customer service expert Chuck Bennett can probably tell you how Boston Whaler intended it to function.

Thanks, Jim. I've owned the boat since new. The dealer never said anything to me about it, so I'm mystified. Would you happen to know if there are any plumbing diagrams for Outrages in the archives?
