In smaller Whalers where you leave the boat in the water with the drain plug in the sump removed, what do you do in saltwater to help prevent growth in the sump and in the drain tube? Do you use bottom paint and paint the sump? There my be times when the boat will sit a dockage for a month with out usage in FLA.

now that i think about it i haven't ever seen any thing in my sump on my Montauk,, and i think its because i made a 3lb solid copper grounding plate 15 years ago and its in my sump,,the copper water and brass through hull drains full of water i think made a good ground,,so maybe a piece of flat copper pipe would work for you,,doesn't most bottom paint have copper in them |

Do you have a picture? That's a great idea, copper is very toxic to marine life. I watched a show that a couple had an artist create a very large fish pond out of hammered copper, everytime they put goldfish in the fish would die in a week. |

i never thought to take a pic of the grounding plate it was a thick copper pipe 3" x 12" and i flattened it out and put it in my sump with a heavy gauge copper wire to my ground block,,it seemed to help with the static in my radio and loran,,but a copper pipe fitting should do the same just tie it off the through hull plug so it doesn't move around too much |
