I have a SL-16 that was purchased used last year. The botom has been painted and even painted over the ground plate mounted under water line on the tramsom. Should this ground plate be scraped clean of paint? Is it only for gas tank grounding or is there other equipment/reasons for gounding below water line?

you don't have to clean the whole plate but get as much paint off as you can ,,the more contact with the water you make the better the plate works |

That big hunk of copper is what as known as a Dyna-plate. The perfect ground for any electronics, as well a great dissapator of lightning strikes. If you can, run a mew 8GA Green wire from your battery 12V- to to the Dyna Plate. This will ensure you that any stray current in your dock area, as well as over-current issues can be safely dumped into the surrounding waters. |
