My original "RULE SWITCH" quit after 11 years. That seemed like a pretty good track record so I bought another last month. Now it is sticking on...with no debris what so ever just the plastic parts binding ever so slightly. The new switch is "mercury free" according to RULE.

Tonight I started researching 12V bilge bump switches switches and found a completely electronic switch which looks promising.

The Water Witch 230-used by the US and Canadian Coast Guard.

No moving parts
Can be mounted at any angle
$37.00 internet pricing

Any folks out there familiar with this product??

To be used on a 1998 OR-20 with a Rule 800 Pump.

Excellent product, cheap stuff doesn't installed on Coastie boats. At $37, a relative bargain. Just make sure your pump is up to snuff. The smaller the boat, the larger the pump you want.

The old RULE switch has been around forever but the "Water Witch 230" is something new-completely electronic...from what I have read.

The old RULE switch used mercury and was very reliable but the new version of the RULE switch(mercury free) has already stuck on several times in only 2 months use.

Because the RULE switch has caused some problems I am considering going for the Water Witch 230.

Thanks for your feedback

My friend has one. According to the salesman, the Water Witch has two sensors so if one poops out, it will still work with the other one. One season of use and it has worked well. Really nice for tight mounting conditions like his installation in a 1995 Montauk. John
