I may have jumped the gun here since I already bought a generic Faria from Great Lakes but now after further investigation it seems I either need a "System Check tach or an additional system check gauge. Does this sound right ? Since my motor did not have a tach do I have to fork out for a new harness or can I modify the one I have ? |

A 1987 engine does not use the SystemCheck gauge or tach, unless someone has converted and rewired the motor and VRO/OMS pump. Of course if your motor is actually a 1996 or later model, then it does need the SystemCheck tach or gauge. Here is a link to the System Check boat wiring harness image. If you have this type, you can use a regular tach plus the 2" System Check 4-light gauge. |

Of course it might help if I actually posted the link http://www.whalercentral.com/images/articles/System_Check/ System_Check_Wiring_Harness.jpg |

Try this again. Maybe HTML is off. http://www.faria-instruments.com/downloads.php How about the recommendation of a voltage regulator (addition) ? |

I've got the separate System Check gauge should you need it. We use Faria's Euro Model w/SS bezels. http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll41/seabob/DSCF0505.jpg Or I can get you the same model tach w/Sys. Check for $75. |

No SYSTEM CHECK gauge required. Great. Now just got to deal with a harness, I think. thanks |

There should be a pigtail with maybe a small black connector on it with 2 or 3 wires. That is your tach pigtail. |

I have an OMC tach that plugs into your control box . It is like new and was used on an 86 40 hp Evinrude . If your control box has a plug in on the rear end of it this is possibly the unit. Price negotiable. high sierra |
