Today while purchasing some oil for my 2006 Optimax I was presented with the opportunity to repower with a lightly used 2007 Verado 200 (152 hrs) the engine was owned by a local yacht club. My Optimax currently has 512 hours and has never let me down ! The swap would cost me a few bucks but thats not the concern nor is the additional weight.I'm really spoiled with my current fuel economy but am curious as to what the fuel burn woulld be with a Verado.

Just so everyone knows, Scrimshaw has a 150 hp Optimax on her.

Jim,I would think you would get better mph with the verado mainly because you will have a more powerful motor working under less stress than your 150 opti. Also, I believe the 200 verado should be inherently better on the fuel consumption over the optimax anyhow. I have to say though, as much as I love the new Verados every boat I have been on with them leaves me longing for that 2 stroke outboard sound of the opti. The Verados are so quite as smooth you could almost forget that the boat is running Outboards. |

Jim - If it's a 6 cylinder 200, I would not do it. The engine simply would look too large on the boat. If it's an L4, go for it. That would be a perfect engine for the boat, although maybe more power than you need, but the correct size and profile. The L4 Verado 200 is the lightest 200 HP four stroke on the market, and is the same weight as the Optimax 200. Another great engine for the ribside is the 175 ProXS Optimax. Almost 200 HP at the prop, and only 435#. |

you will not get better mileage with the verado vs the opti...and as LHG says, the only option to consider is if it's a 4 cyl verado... |

Larry,it's an L6 and it's BIG. Glen you confirmed my thoughts on gas miliage, I'm kinda used to 6 miles per gallon. |

not only big but complicated...you'll need power steering rig new batteries new gauges possible new transom after a few years new scupperswell I'm sure you get the point...that motor is 700 lbs wet with prop..... |
