I am looking for any experiences with 1986 3 cylinder Mercury outboards, I just aquired one, comression even at 130, but basic maintenance has been neglected. Were these engines regarded as reliable? I don't see much informationon the iboat or bbc engine boards which leads me to believe they are all in the scrapyard or very trouble free. Thanks MartyD

My son has the Mariner version. It has been trouble free.

They have been around since the early 70's. I had the 1983 version in 70hp form. Reliable but more like 50-60hp and probably why they rebadged them that way.
