At some point (perhaps 1995) Boston Whaler changed through-hull drains on the Montauk to plastic. Has anyone taken out their old through-hull fitting from say a 1985 Montauk and put in the plastic through-hull fitting made for a late 1990's Montauk? If so, is the process of putting in a plastic thru-hull easier than a brass thru-hull? Does the plastic through-hull just screw together?

[Separated from another discussion.]

There is an FAQ answer on replacement of brass through-hull drains. See

Q12: How Are Drain Tubes Replaced?

The FAQ does not address the topic of plastic through-hull drains which thread together. A fitting of that type has been seen used for the above the water line exhaust of a sump pump that passed through the hull sides.

When I replaced the drain on my [1973 Boston Whaler 17-foot boat], the dealer originally gave me the plastic thru-hull. I found it to be wider than the brass one, and, more importantly, too short by a couple of inches. I had to bring the plastic one back and have them order the brass original. I do not know if the same is true for a 1985 model.
