I started to install the norman pin I purchased and noticed that the pin does not meet the hull in a flush manner.

The pin seems to be correct but the hull is angled.

Has anyone else run into this problem and if so, what would you suggest? Should I tighten it slightly with tools and seal with 4200?

Thanks.

"The hull is angled."

Can you explain what you mean by that?

When installing the norman pin, use a thread lock like Loctite on the stud.

On my 1978 20' Outrage, the norman pin has a slight bend near one end so that the hardware on each end meets the hull flush on both sides ... the outer and inner surfaces of the hull are slightly off parallel. -Mike

Here's a link to a quick sketch of what I'm dealing with.

That is strange. Whaler molds the hull with a recessed flat area for the norman pin to seat against.

I have to suspect your hull has been repaired in that area, perhaps when a normal pin was ripped out and the recessed area was filled in.

Mike,

1978 Outrage 20s do not have a normal pin.

Looks original around the norman pin. I'll try to take an actual picture. I may just have to tighten it as much as possible (with loctite) without damaging the gelcoat and then use some 4200 in the gaps.

Tom: Thanks for the correction. In the case of my 1978 Outrage 20, it is not a norman pin that is bent; it is the all-thread that connects the bow eye to the lifting eye.

Mike,

That bend in the all-thread is intentional.
