My 1984 Montauk has a Morse throttle control with the [trim controls] in the end knob. It no longer will remain in position without keeping your hand in place; when you release the handle it gradually backs down. I have told there is no internal adjustment such as a friction screw or the like. My choice is to either live with it or get a replacement. Since it is original with the boat I would rather keep it. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

Have you looked at the manual?

I think they are referred to as S controls. I do see a friction adjustment screw in looking at this manual from the Teleflex Marine website:

If this is not it, there are several other manuals available at http://www.teleflexmarine.com/cgi-bin/library.cgi?site=home&type=us& library=1017

Thanks for the information; now i feel like a real indiot. For when I look at the control, I realize it is a Quicksilver and not a Morse. How I didn't know that after looking at it for 25 years, I don't know. A source for the Quicksilver may be my answer. Sorry for my foulup.

After posting I see I misspelled "idiot".

haskel,
Having had a merc binnacle control on my CohassetII for years and having disassembled it for maintenance I found no friction devise. About the only thing you can do is adjust the friction on the linkage on the powerhead. I too found a steady hand on the throttle necessary.
