Check out these shots of my Montauk.

I compounded the hull and then used 3m finesse-it. Then followed up with 3m marine wax. I also used 3m plastic polish on the rub rail.

Before putting the handrails back on I took them apart and buffed all the pieces with metal polish.

I am pretty happy with things so far.

I think I see a West Marine shopping bag and a Porter-Cable box in one of the photos. At least West Marine supplies a nice bag when you dump a lot of money for some fix-up products. Did you use a Porter-Cable polisher, and if so, what polishing pads did you use?

I too would like to know which pads you used with your 7424 polisher. Love my Porter Cable and have been using the orange pads for everything with good results, but am open to suggestions. You really got it lookin nice.

Yeah guilty as charged on my shopping habits. It's really close by and convenience. Convenience does come at a price however.

I used the velcro backer pad and lambswool pad for compounding and used a total of 5

Step 1 3m deep-cut compound. I used the highest speed and had no problems with heat buildup even when focusing on smaller area. I used one lambswool till it separated from the velcro. The second one made it through. I did two complete passes inside and out with all fittings removed. 1.5 bottles of compound.

Step 2 New lambswool pad and finesse-t. Two passes inside and out

Step 3 3m marine wax buffed out with yet another lambwool.

The first lambwool I am now using with flitz metal polish on everything I can hit with the buffer with all the fittings removed from the stainless tubing. Good results.
