i have read the information in the reference section of continuous wave. what would be the best recomended toungue weight for my boat? i pull it with a full size pick-up.

1969 13' std. (hull & wood) 325 lbs.
25 hp yamaha 2 stroke 106 lbs.
6 gals. gas plus tank X 2 80 lbs.
mushroom anchor 15 lbs.
galvanized trailer 150 lbs.?
loaded cooler 25 lbs.
equipment 20 lbs.

total 771 lbs.?

5% = 38.5 lbs 7% = 54 lbs. 15% = 115.5 lbs

i'm thinking 50 lbs. it's easy to lift (i have a tongue wheel, no jack) would that be safe? thanks.......glen

It's not an exact science - 50 pounds would be a good place to start. See how it tows, and then if you have problems, move some more gear forward. You could actually leave the heavy cooler up front when towing, and move it behind the axle when you need to move the trailer around by hand.

Generally, 10% of the total weight should be on the tongue. I don`t think it is real critical with a light load like a 13 footer. put a bathroom scale under the tongue wheel/jack and then you will know. Moving the boat forward an inch at a time or to the rear the same will get you on exactly 10%.

Its a 13' with a sizable pick-up. Don't over think it.

thanks. i have adjusted the boat on the trailer all i can (unless i move the axel forward) i'm at 62 lbs. tongue weight. (that's 9%) i'm sure it will do just fine.

i sure have learned a lot from the continuous wave reference section, the internet, etc. about trailer, design. i don't think i'll ever pass another trailer without considering it's elements.
