I have a BW Rage 15, which I bought last year at a reasonable price ($3000) with a nice trailer. It runs well, i.e. full power, nicely planes, etc. (really fun), but for only about one hour. Then it shuts down and will not restart. I noticed when this happen their is no ignition to any of the sparkplugs.

I suspect it is due to overheating (as seems to be common to this engine) although only once did the overheat alarm sound. The temperature when is shuts down is about 170 degrees, which does not seem too high. When I run it again, it still runs well and so I do not suspect any head damage.
The engine has the flush and strainer kit. I am thinking of removing the thermostat to see if that helps.

Anyways, I also suspect that the problem may be in the ignition. I replaced the powerpack and ignition cables and it did make some improvement. Someone suggested that perhaps the ignition coil may be shorting out when the engine gets warm. Any advice as to if this is a real possibility?

My main question is: why does the engine shut down? I have the original factory repair manual with wiring diagrams. From this, I noticed that the OMC 115 engine does not have an automatic safety shutoff diode (like some other models) when the engine overheats. So, any ideas on what cause the ignition to shut off?
