Well, I finially got to play with my boat 84 18ft outrage today. I oiled the wood and deceide to open up the fuel tank hatches. Low and behold, 1 inch of water on top of the fuel tank! ouch. The previous owner had someone replace the tank and from what I could see they used everything like great stuff and foam blocks. I was going to pull the tank in the fall. But with the water now over the tank and I felt around the hatches and the wood seems slim to none in a few spots I will have to bite the bullet and pull the helm off and open the floor. I can't remember seeing anything about pulling the helm off, the boat has hydro steering and I need to know what to do with that. Looks not too hard but just asking before I dive in the shallows. Looks like some other good articles on wood so I won't mention that here. Thanks again for your help. Erick Greensboro NC 1984 18ft Outrage, Grey Jenny

I would just take the lines off at the helm and catch the oil in a bucket. The important thing would be to cover the ends of the lines and the helm. I would also consider marking each hose to the fitting it came off of. when you reinstall you will have to bleed it off much like like brakes on a car but I am sure you can google that info from the manufacture of the unit. |
