I have a 2000 Outrage 28 and lately have been getting water in the cabin. It comes out from behind the refrigerator. I would like to remove the refrigerator and see if something is clogging the flow of water back to the bilge. Is there a trick to removing the refrigerator? Looks like you remove the metal frame and then there appears to be two bolts holding it in place on the backside. Any help would be appreciated.

Your inquiry sent me to my catalog drawer to look at the 2000 OUTRAGE 28. I was not aware that an OUTRAGE 28 had a cabin! And I was equally surprised to see it looks big enough to hold a refrigerator. Chuck Bennett might be your answer-man on this.

I'm dealing with the same thing in my 2001 Outrage 28 - water in the forward part of the cabin under the fridge. To date I have not been able to figure out where it comes from or why it won't drain back to the bilge... I haven't taken out the refrigerator, but would be very interested to hear about your experience if you do remove it and what you find out about the drainage under there.

So far I've been operating under the assumption that it's just a quirk in the design of the boat - it's a low spot that only drains back to the bilge while underway.

Gentlemen,

I purchased a 1999 Conquest last October. The cabin sole is teak with strips of a lighter colored wood. The wood under the corner of the refer had delaminated due to water. The previous owner was very honest and said no one could figure out where the water was coming in. After about 5 minutes of investigating I determined that "the leak" was not a leak. There is a aluminum strip on the underside of the my refer door that conducts cold outside the refer box. Water was condensing on the aluminum and then dripping onto the sole. You may be experiencing something similar on your Whaler. I don't know where you are located, but turn your refers on during warm humid weather and see if you are having a similar experience.

I never use the refrigerator. That is part of the dilemna. Another guy I know has the same issue on his 2001 Conquest. Another question before I tear it apart - is there a clean straight shot in the bilge from the front to the back or is there a small bulkhead preventing that flow ? Would appreciate any help on this......thx...

if memory serves me correctly a source of a leak in those boats is the thru-hull fitting for the head.

The fitting goes through the hull-foam-inner liner, and has a tendency to leak. The hull and deck flange can also sometimes leak due to poor trimming and rub rail sealing causing moisture to leak down the hull sides and into the cabin area.

I have pictures of the hull and deck flange/rub rail issue, but if your rub rail does not come loose you are probably ok in that department.

thx...rub rail is in good shape. will check the head issue and see if this could be the source......

I think you will find the fitting to be the source of your leak, and/ or the previously mentioned hull and deck flange if it is not sealed well

I have a 2001 outrage and had the same problem. We put check valves on the discharge of the shower sump pump. If you have people or weight forward and the through hull goes under water, water will come in. I also put them on the A/C hose.

I now have a much bigger problem. The forward sink drain through hull started leaking and I now have water in my hull. I removed this through hull and found it was never sleeved when they installed it. Check this fitting on your boats and make sure you can not move it and there is no play in the fitting. I would love to know if anyone else has this problem.
