"Under gunwale" rod storage for a Dauntless 15. That's a tough one. My goal is to get 4 poles, 2 per side, (spinning and levelwind) stored on the gunwales, while keeping the rod holder as streamline as possible while not in use. I looked into using Dauntless 16 folding rod holders but the darn things ar $200 per side! Holly crap! Unfortunately I dont have a way to make some myself. I've looked at just about everything but the vast majority of holders are too bulky, dont offer any protection for the rod tips and are not lockable.
Leading my list of possiblities:
1. 2 of the boat buckle systems:

2. This Gorilla Rod Rack is nice but again, no tip protection, and I can't find one to look at.

3. Also, possibly, taking starboard rod holders and adding hinges to them similar to the Dauntless 16 gunwale mounts. Holders like these:
