Re: a cross flow 1994 Johnson 115-HP with automatic oil mixing. A mechanic from Van's of Grand Rapids says when I turn the key I should be getting an audible alarm prior to start to confirm the alarm cicuit functions properly. I get no alarm.

[Give me advice] about trouble shooting this. I will try to find the sonalert, horn or whatever they put in there to see if it works. Still looking for manual. Maybe these models did not have alarms. What do you guys think?

It seems almost universal for an outboard motor to have an audible alarm sounder. You can typically check the sounder's operation by

--turning the ignition key to the RUN position,
--temporarily disconnecting the overheat sensor's lead,
--grounding the tan wire which was connected to the overheat sensor

This should cause the audible alarm to sound.

Thanks Jim - Still have not got manual - stopped by Van's who ID'd the motor from owner's manual. Seems like plugs are spendy.

Any other information would be appreciated.

Still swamping out the garage and storage unit from move of two houses - Accumulation is astounding. Of course, it's all valuable.
