Where did [owners of an Evinrude E-TEC or owners of any two-cycle motor] locate the oil reservoir? Did any [owners of an Evinrude E-TEC or owners of any two-cycle motor] put the [remote oil] reservoir in the console? How is that working out? I have a 1984 Outrage 22 with the [deep sink-style] splash well. |

Makes sense to place the oil tank in the same location as the battery, either splash well, or console. |

A good place to locate the oil tank is any place where it will not be subjected to splashing water and possible submerging. |

It depends on how the E-tec oil injection system is designed (and I don't know!). Here is where I put the oil tank on my oil injected Merc 150 - in the transom splashwell of a classic 19 Outrage: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v429/lgoltz/Outrage%2019/?action=view& current=R1-10.jpg . With Mercury's system you can do this, since it is a presurized system and air & water tight. This is a good location solution, as it eliminates running long oil lines in the boat tunnel up to the console. With the OMC VRO system, according to an article written by "SEAHORSE", putting the non-pressurized OMC oil tank in a wet location resulted in many engine failures, related to water getting into the oil supply. So if Bombarider has not re-designed the old VRO oil tank system, I would find a totally dry place for it, as you don't want to be lubricating the engine with salt water. But if it's a new, air and water tight design like Mercury has used since 1976, the splashwell should be fine. |

There is nothing really different about OMC oil tanks or E-TEC oil tanks from Mercury oil tanks in regard to how they move oil from the tank to the engine. I wrote extensively on this topic in Automatic Oiling System: OMC/Bombardier versus Mercury but rather than begin rehashing just read the reference article instead. If you want to put your oil tank under water, go right ahead. I will repeat my recommendation: don't put the oil tank anywhere it can become submerged or is subject to constant splashing. |

[Changed TOPIC to the contents of my article mentioned above. I would be glad to have a public discussion on the article. But let's not hijack this thread about tank placement. To follow up to the article use the thread which has been created for that purpose.--jimh] |

I placed my E-TEC oil tank as shown for the Merc option in whaler parts diagram for my Outrage 210, that is, on the flat in the bilge area. I then got the Evinrude remote oil fill kit (similar to Mercury's) and ran it to the top of the transom wall under the fishing table. But you could run it to inside one of the rear quarter seats or other sheltered area if you prefer to solve any self venting water ingress concerns with the filler cap. Regards |

I moved mine to the console of my 16ft after my aft mounted tank developed a crack.(probably due to UV exposure) Got a brand new, in the box, tank on ebay for $15 and ran the hose through the rigging tunnel. Works great on my 70hp Johnson 2 stroke. |

I put mine in a group 27 battery box and mounted it on the port side of the splashwell. I taped over the vent holes in the battery box to stop water from getting in. I have a 1981 18' Outrage with a 1993 Yamaha 130. |

My 1984 18' Outrage had the oil reservoir located in the console when I bought it. This was not ideal. There were several problems: -The tank had to be removed in order to be filled. I relocated the reservoir to a location under the rear bench seat, where it is protected from rain, but is clearly visible from the helm, and can be easily filled (I attached one end of the hold-down bracket with a bungee cord, so the tank can be easily slid out from under the seat). I have not used this yet on the water, so I will report later on the relative success of this configuration. |
