I just bought a used boat. The tilt and trim is not working. I tested the [electric] motor [of the power trim and tilt system], and it will not run. I definately need a motor. How can I test the hydraulic system of the power tilt and trim sytem without an electric motor [to supply the hydraulic fluid pressure] to see if I should buy a whole new unit? I can lift it up and down without turning the screw on the side to disengage. I did however turn it too far the first time taking the boat out and the screw came all the way out. I did put the screw back in.

As long as there is fluid in the piston it is probably just the motor. They [the motor?] wear really often if the boat is used a lot. I am on my second in three [years--please do not use three letter abbreviations for five letter words] but I use two to four time a week. Good luck |

Are you sure your battery is charged? You may also want to check the connections on your battery to make sure they are not corroded. |

To test only the hydraulic portion of your power trim and tilt system, borrow the electrical motor from another working power trim and tilt system and temporarily install it onto your non-functioning system. |
