Put a six-inch jack plate on my Katama and a 90-HP on that. Should I use Locktite on nuts on both plate to hull and motor to plate? If so, red or blue?

I didn't use anything on my CMC jack plate install because lockwashers or locknuts were provided.

If you are going to use locktite threadlocker use the blue.

Should not need it..too many bolts have to be loosened for it to move. I actually put greese on mine so they would not weld shut.

I would just use lock-nuts.

The professional way to mount engines and jackplates is to use the same components that Mercury furnishes with new engines:

* Fine thread 1/2" SS bolts of correct length
* Fine thread Bronze locknuts (to eliminate the galling you can get with SS locknuts and course threaded bolts)
* Thick 1/2" washers on the boat side of the bolt
* A very small diameter 1/2" "ring" washer on the engine bracket side

Last three items are hard to find, but the fine thread bolts can be found at Ace Hardware.

No threadlocker should be used.

I got my plate off Ebay without hardware (Rite-Hite). Pretty sure though that CMC does not use lock nuts. Got to admit I got my hardware from the Lowes stainless drawers. I will look for appropriate lock-nuts and if no luck will use Locktite blue.

What Larry refers to as "...very small diameter 'ring' washer" is more commonly known as an SAE (specification Washer). Any good hardware store will have these.

The locknuts that Mercury uses are brass, not bronze. Fine thread versions are hard to find.

Stainless steel locknuts will be a better choice for saltwater use though you need to tighten them by hand to avoid galling. Grease or anti-seize will provide additional protection against galling.

If you do not live near a good hardware store, you can always order any obscure hardware you might need from McMaster-Carr:
