I went to change my fuel filter and noticed that it has a racor filter S3213 that is meant for a merc engine. I have an evinrude and there seems to be a similar filter for that engine. Does it make a difference, or should I just stick with what has been used on the boat before?

Also, anything I need to do in particular in changing it besides putting oil on the gasket.

Thanks

The S3213 filter is for the Merc STYLE filter bracket, the same style that is the most common in the industry. It has a certain thread size and seal ring diameter.

There also is a replacement for the OMC-BRP STYLE filter bracket, S32114, that uses a large diameter thread and the same diameter seal ring.

The third STYLE is for the Racor bracket. It uses a large diameter thread but a larger diameter seal ring.

The filtering element is the same in all of the styles.

It does not matter what brand filter kit is installed on a motor.

Here is a link to a story about filters and how they perform.
