On my 180 Dauntless with a Mercury 115 FOURSTROKE I have replaced the water pressure gauge. The old gauge was hung on 7-PSI. The new gauge does not work either. I unhooked the line at the motor and blew it out with an air compressor to be sure there was nothing it before I installed the new Teleflex gauge. I hooked it all back up to check for any leaks and there were none. Could there be something in the motor that stopped up? The line is connected on the starboard side above and behind the oil dipstick. Michael, |

Have you run the engine with hose disconnected from the gauge to eliminate the new one from being bad? If no flow, I looked at a Mercury service manual for 2001-2006 and it shows an adapter screwed into the side of the block for the hose. You may want to remove that and see if its blocked since it probably has a small I.D. like the tubing. If not blocked you could try running motor on muffs and see if you get water out of the adapter hole. If not it would indicate some blockage in the block passages. |

Sometimes a chunk of crap will get in front of the fitting on the engine, may have to take the fitting off to make sure its clear. Try running the engine with no hose/ fitting like number9 stated....good luck |

There are prior discussions about a problem or failure or blockage or low reading with the water pressure gauge on a Mercury engine. Thanks all, The line is clear, I took the fitting out of the block and it is clear also. I will look at the older posts and see what they say. Today I installed a Garmin 441s and found a possible kink in the plastic line under the console. I took the line loose again and it is clear. I guess it could be in the block itself. |

Has anyone tried blowing thru the line and seeing what the gage reads? I put a new gage on my mercury 225 and it only reads 5 psi wot, It has a new water pump and lower unit. I replaced the water line and still only 5 psi. A friend told me you should be able to blow at least 10 psi on the gage by blowing thru the line with your mouth but I can only get 2 psi. Has anyone got any imput? Thanks |

Mike: I just removed my 2008 Mercury water pressure gauge today because I changed engines on my boat and changed all the gauges. My Merc gauge had stopped working about 4 months ago. When I removed the gauge from the dash I found a ball of salt right in the inlet to the gauge so that might be one of the causes. Fred |

Thanks, I have rechecked the line and it is clear. I did not have time yesterday to take the fitting out of the engine block, it is kinda hard to get to. I flushed the engine for 30 minutes with the line off and no water came out. I think the problem is behind the fitting in the engine. Michael, |
