I have a 190 Montauk with a new E-TEC 150. I would like to install a kicker to match the E-TEC, but Evinrude does not make anything smaller than a 25-HP engine. [Solicits] suggestions or recommendation to match up [the color] of both engines. [Thanks], Fred |

My recommendation would be a Yamaha high-thrust 8 or 9.9-HP. [These engines have] little weight, and the little outboards are built to push big loads slowly. I have a 1973 OUTRAGE 21, but I put a 15-HP [four-cycle auxiliary engine] on it. I did this because I run far offshore and did not want to have to mix oil and have the ability to run it off my main tank. The little high-thrust may come in [a four-cycle] nowadays. My 2cents |

You can match the engine color by re-painting the auxiliary engine to match the main engine. Bombardier sells the paint for the E-TEC in small spray cans. It shouldn't take more than a two or three cans to paint a small auxiliary engine. The paint is about $10 per can. |

Thanks for the input, I did think about a repaint but I wanted to avoid painting a new engine if possible. I also thought about a 9.9 and that might be the way I go although I'd rather let a pro do the painting than use spray cans. Thks, Fred |

Ferdinando I to considered painting my Yamaha 9.9 with power tilt to match my ETEC200HO on my Outrage 210, but could not bring myself to do it on a new engine and there is more greased parts on the power tilt model, making it prone to peeling if not completly degreased. You sort of get use to it: http://i707.photobucket.com/albums/ww76/SJUAE/Kicker/DSC02155.jpg BTW the 9.9 maybe a bit heavy for your 190 Montauk Regards |

Steve: What size do you recommend and why. The 190 is 2,000 lbs. I had a 6 HP on my old 17 and I thought it was to small. Thks, Fred |

Ferdinando You can see in this picture by looking at the splashwell drains the amount of list you get with the 9.9. http://i707.photobucket.com/albums/ww76/SJUAE/Kicker/DSC02165.jpg Here's a nice and simple bracket for the Merc Bigfoot FYI, http://i707.photobucket.com/albums/ww76/SJUAE/Kicker/DSCN1369.jpg My custom one was to match the boarding platform on the starboard side. It's more noticeable underway as there is less hull in the water, I correct it by having one trim tab down a bit further. The 9.9 with power tilt is quite heavy at ~100lbs and pushes my 210 easily at +6mph. Which I think is its normal max displacement speed. I got the 9.9 as there is no way I was going to lean over the back and raise it manually, access is a bit better on your 190, also my 210 with all options is quite heavy. You may of been disappointed with your previous 6HP if it did not have a large displacement prop on. If you don't need the electric lift I think you may be lucky and find a new (but old) Johnson 4 stroke in white or even the old 8.8 that was a bit lighter If you search the small boat electrical Jim posted the Yam wiring diagram for me and since these pictures I have installed a proper seastar/teleflex tie-bar and the Evinrude dual binnacle Regards |
