I apologize in advance if this subject has been discussed before, but I have been searching for a few hours with little luck.

I would like to install a bow pedestal seat in my '69 Nauset. The vertical pedestal bracket is a great solution, but before I fabricate a vertical base, I want to make sure the bulkhead is strong enough in the old 16.5' hulls. The wood location diagram doesn't indicate any wood in the bulkhead so any thoughts and\or firsthand experience would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I might install a standard 6"x8" Swivl-eze Stainless base plate in the back of the boat into one of the 4" runs. My concern is whether or not the wood and glass can handle the strain. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated as well.

Thanks for the help.

What I did on my 68 was to replace the front locker cover with a piece of heavy plywood and bolted the pedestal to the top of the board with a piece of angle iron underneath the board using the same bolts. I took a heavy duty turnbuckle with hook ends and connected it between the angle iron and the eye of the winch bolt inside the locker.
One side of the board has to be cut and hinged to give access to the locker to reach inside and tighten the turnbuckle but it doesn't have to be very big.
I used it that way for a long time without any problems.
I even changed it later and put the trolling motor on it.

Thanks for the great advice. You have peaked my interest with your trolling motor comment. How did you mount a trolling motor to your locker cover?

Anyone else out there have any experience with older hulls and vertical pedestal seats?

Thanks

Welded a bracket to the pedestal that was level with the top of the bow. Ran a board from the bracket to the bow with a flat rubber covered hook on the board that clamped around the front overhang.
