I have researched various methods people have used to secure bow mount trolling motors on their 13 foot whalers. I have found that there are basically two methods (please add to this list if necessary):

1.through-drilling to some sort of brace on the bottom (see link), then mounting the motor to a "puck" or metal plate.

This is what I think I will use, although it seems a little too intrusive for my newly restored boat.

2. Drilling topside only, hollowing out foam with the allen wrench method, and setting some nuts in marine tex or similar. Then mounting a "puck" or metal place to these bolts, and mounting the scissor mount to that.

Much cleaner looking, but I think there will be a lot of strain on those bolts from all the leverage of the scissor mount.

My hull is a 1978, and I don't think there is any wood up there, except the tiny piece under the bow light.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The guy's 13 looks much better, he used aluminum instead of steel (17 had steel). The best way to do it is to through bolt it(use good stainless), there is no wood or any kind of meat for a screw to grab. So you will have to through bolt it but make something(as in the picture) for the bolts to grab and support. The peice should/will fit under the rub rail to grab the underside. Remember to measure twice and cut/drill once....Good luck
