[What is the maximum horsepower] the swim platform on a Boston Whaler RAGE 15 could handle [if the swim platform were used as a mounting point for an auxiliary motor]? An auxiliary bracket could be used but it would be so off-center that without the skeg of an outboard I think [the Boston Whaler RAGE 15] would be hard to steer on a straight course.

I would think that the swim platform would be [too] close to the water line to mount a motor on, unless you installed some kind of block on the swim platform to raise the motor up. I would think that easiest way would be for a bracket. I have a 5 HP Mercury kicker motor on my 63 Eastport mounted to the far left side of my transom and it steers just fine. If you think about it, a trolling motor has virtually none either. I might be wrong but I thought the skeg was there mainly to protect the prop and that the boat was steered mainly by the direction of the thrust from the prop. |

You're right about the skeg protecting the prop. But when you use the kicker don't you still have the main engine in the water acting as a center skeg. |
