I wouldn't. If the piston, rings and cylinder are healthy, nothing you can add will make them more healthy. If they are not healthy, nothing you can add will stop their eventual demise, short of an overhaul. The good news is, outboards are easy to overhaul... especially older ones. There are a surprising number of older outboards whose pistons, rings, and cylinder walls are perfectly good, only they aren't running because their owners don't know how to troubleshoot the very simple fuel and ignition systems. A little tune up, and they can and will run for hundreds of hours like new. I have one like that. A 1959 model Johnson Super Seahorse 35hp. Aside from the old styling and the fact that it drinks fuel like drunken sailor, it might as well be right off the showroom floor in 1959. -Peter |
