Article from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel about a local inventor accessorizing Motorcycle windshields.

Motorcyclists are much more savvy about accessorizing, I think it's safe to say, but I can see this kind of technology having both decorative and practical applications in the marine world.

The flamboyant laser etched artwork doesn't do much for me, but the glowing edge of the windscreen intrigues me. I can definitely imagine law enforcement boats having flashing blue windshields.

Not even sure how this is a great idea. Light that sucker up and you can't see out of the windshield with the exception of the glass around the areas that aren't etched. So his view is that bikers will be more visible to other motorists, but this is at the expense the motorcyclist losing his ability to see the road correctly through the windscreen.

On a boat I would think this is even more dangerous. At night we don't have steetlights to help our eyes on the water. So having lights in front when driving can be downright dangerous when trying to spot channel markers and bouys.

I should note that his work is creative, but not revolutionary. The technique is called Edge Lighting, and is an interesting alternative to backlit, or housed lighting, that is becoming a more popular alternative as LEDs become more commonplace.

This is just the first time I've seen it used on any kind of transportation.
