Greetings,
I recently replaced the fuel lines from tank to engine with Sierra 3/8 hose. It is very soft; I can squeeze it flat with my fingers. The dealer said that the hose was collapsable so that a fire could not back up to the fuel tank. All other hoses I tested by squeezing are much harder. Will fuel demand from engine flatten the hose?
The aluminum connector on the top of the tank was corroded, so I replaced it with a new one. I noticed that the old one was open inside but the new one has a check valve. I asked about that obstruction and was told that since 19--, all under deck tanks were required to have that installed to prevent fire going into tank. I was ok with that answer until I read jmh saying you can remove it. Necessary to have it or optional? I am tempted to remove the hose and replace with harder hose and remove the ball valve if it will improve flow rate. Thanks for your comments. Steve

Steve,

I recently purchased fuel line for my 70 yamaha. I initially bought 3/8 line until a mechanic told me that I should stick with 5/16 hose. He indicated that the fuel pumps won't draw well with the wider hose. Also, the black 5/16 hose was heavy duty for running through the tunnel. I am not sure if the 115 hp has different specs regarding fuel draw and consumption. Good luck.
