Our 98 Outrage 24 gets water in the center console bilge. I've been able to determine that it's coming in between the deck and the console. The original caulk, if there was any is no longer doing the job. Without lifting the console, I plan on running a bead of caulk or sealer around the perimeter. Has anyone out there done this with one of the larger consoles? What caulk would you recommend? Thanks

Bobalong,Are you sure it's coming in between the deck and console? I have a 1994 Outrage 24 and had the same issue. I called the factory they told me the 1994 model cockpit sole that sits underneath the center consol was glued in-place and sealed with 3M 5200 to the inner liner. On the models 1995 and newer they used a sealant (not sure which sealant) and then fastened the sole to the inner liner with screws; yours is probably attached this way. When I preformed my fix they said to re-glue and seal with 5200 followed by stainless screws every 12 inches, which is what I did. Problem solved... If indeed your console is leaking at the deck, it appears silicone sealant was used in that joint Give the Whaler factory a call, they were very familiar with the condition. Hope that helps. John |

John: Thanks for the reply. Yes, it's definitely coming in at the seam. Where it comes in on the sides, over the cabin steps, it's leaving rusty stains where it travels through the bolt holes and drips off the bolts. During washdown, it comes in at the forward part of the compartment as well. I am surprised that 5200 would be used. That would make it nearly impossible to remove if ever necessary. I hadn't thought of calling the factory. Thanks again |

Bob,As I remember 5200 was only used to attach the floor to the inner liner, not the console to the floor. Please let me know what you hear from the factory. Thanks, John

The customer service rep said that 4200 would be the best to use. He also said that this model was prone to leaks from the gutter area where the main deck meets the hull. I'm going to check again and hope that's not the case because that would be a real pain to seal. And again, 4200 is what he recommended there. Rob |
