As many of you know I have been restoring a 72 Boston Whaler 19. Well the restoration is rounding home and now I am working on the finite details.

I was not happy with the way the stock rubrail terminated on the transom so I decided to do something a little different. I made these caps from aluminum that match the profile of the rail and provide a nice finished look. My question is this.

For the aluminum caps I have three options.
1 - Clear Anodize - this would pretty much look like the picture just a little better finish.
2 - Chrome plated - this would look like the cleats and other chrome fittings on the boat.
3 - Painted - I could paint them tan to match the receiver track the rubrail is in.
4 - Let me know if you have another option that would be better.

Here is a picture of the rubrail cap.

Here is the boat if you haven't seen it.

Chrome all the way, match the rest of the boat.

Each finish is as good as it is applied, each finish will have problems, chrome will pit, paint will peel and clear coat will turn color.Another choice is to have it powered coated. Chrome is a good choice and it does look good, but since you have done the boat yourself I would clear coat it. Easy to do and easy to fix. Nice job on the boat....

Scott -

I'd vote for powder coating it. We did that with our motor bracket and have not had any problems. I'd go with a red to match the rubrail.

Thanks for the replies. As for worry about pitting and such I should clarify. This will be a garage kept and covered trailer queen. I do not plan on leaving her in the water or outside overnight very often.

Are the lifting eyes in the rear OEM? I have the same on my 76 and thought they were replaced as the boat was kept on davits. I thought my 74 had regular Whaler eyes. You running a 22" prop? What numbers?

Capital W O W ! Absolutely beautiful restoration job. Lovely old classic now ready for a museum or, better yet, some fish blood on those pristine decks. Congratulations.

Nick, not sure if they are OEM - They were the style that was on the boat when I got it - So I just stuck with it. I ran the alum prop that came with the motor - 14 x 23 - No performance numbers and I had no gps or working speedo (setup issue). I will be putting on the 14 x 22 Stainless prop I got through Tom this week.

Thanks Tony - My son has plenty of plans this week to get some blood on the decks - we shall see. We fished our 13 last weekend. I guess I will have to break down and get her dirty.....eventually.
