Need advice on replacing paddle trim switch (#4 on diagram). Owners manual says "pry trim switch retainer/cover from handle" , but it looks like trim piece (#5) is glued/fused solid with the handle. Local Merc dealer suggests just prying really hard and hoping the handle doesn't break. Anyone have experience with this problem?

Link to parts diagram (sorry it is so long, tried to imbed pic but apparently cannot):

Thanks!

The trim piece on my '89 Mercruiser control was held in place by two "prongs" that were part of the piece. Mine use to fall off about once a week until I spot glued itin place. Your dealer is right. Try to pry it off. Hope nobody spot glued it. Good luck.
