I am afraid I am old-fashioned, and for a bat I much prefer a wooden bat, like an old Hillerich-Bradsby Louisville Slugger to any of these new metal bats. |

Try checking your "start assist" solenoid on the port, top side of the engine. Those engines have a start assist system that provides something like 16V to the injectors during starting in order to make the engine fire. It may have a strong battery, but it may not be getting enough voltage to the injectors to start. I've had a Ficht 200 with this problem. It would turn over no problem, but not always start. Sometimes it would start, sometimes not. The start assist solenoid was replaced and everything has been fine since. Something to check out. Also, check for loose or corroded electrical connections.- Chris

Also try priming the bulb if it sat for a few days. It could possibly be the pressure relay that is losing prime after it sits, just like on a car. Easy to test. Priming the bulb would eliminate that until it gets to the loint you have to do it daily. |

The start assist on your motor is engergized by the pink wire on the starter solenoid. Hook up a digital voltmeter on the starter post and ground to the engine block and crank the engine over for about 5 seconds. The voltage should stay close to 10 volts. If it is less than 9.8V, the EMM could be turning on and off. The pink assist wire should also show about the same voltage as the starter within a few "tenths". Even though the voltage is OK, the starter may still be turning the motor over too slowly to activate the sensors and build up power in the stator. |

I think part of the problem in starting this Evinrude FICHT motor is the use of a bat instead of a battery. I'd get a good cranking battery, not a bat. You just can't replace a battery with a bat, even a modern aluminum bat, and certainly not an old wooden bat. |
