What does an intermittant continous whistle mean on a 225 mercury optimax mean

I have a 1999 225 Mercury Optimax.

When does the engine go into alarm mode? Are you underway?Fast or slow? Working hard to get on plane? On plane? We need a bit more info to really help you out...

From what I can discern from your post it sounds like an overheat. What type of guages do you have onboard?

I have a 2002 225 HP Optimax. If the alarm 3 or so beeps every couple of minutes, it sounds like the "water in fuel" alarm.

Are you hearing this continually once the motor has been running a few minutes?

This alarm is notoriously false. If you disconnect the wire from the sensor for a few minutes, then reconnect it, you can see if this clears the alarm.

If it is a whistle instead of a buzz, as in alarm buzzer, I would suspect possibly an air leak in the compressed air system. If the sound is from the helm area, I would suspect it is an alarm, if coming from the engine area, it is something mechanical, if it is coming from the dock, it...
