I need to fill transducer holes in transom. Will LOCKTITE-brand marine epoxy be sufficient? I will move the transducer, and the mounting plate will cover where the holes are now. I will redrill two new holes. Should I fill the holes flush with the epoxy? Or, leave [the epoxy] just below the gel coat surface? Should I cover with 3M-5200 [adhesive] sealant? Or, will the epoxy be good enough?

I would fill to just below the gelcoat, and if you don't want to replace the gelcoat, I'd use a tinted sealant/caulk to protect the Epoxy from UV degradation/yellowing....and looking like crap.

The best fix would be to use a gelcoat patch.

I filled mine flush with good epoxy and dabbed a little Grand Banks Beige on the epoxy. It's a little darker than Whaler Desert Tan but not much and I had a can of that.

Since it's going to be covered by a plate anyway, just fill all the way to the surface and forget about it. Fill with 5200, marine caulk, epoxy - any one will work fine, so use what you have.

I have spider cracks running out from the holes I drilled will a little 5200 work to fill them and waterproof them? They are less than a 1/2 inch long. The new holes I drilled do not have them as I countersunk through the gel coat. I thought I did on the first ones but evidently not good enough.

Epoxy is an excellent adhesive. It is typically completely impervious to penetration by water. For gap filling, epoxy adhesive is usually mixed with a filler.

3M-5200 is an adhesive intended for permanent bonding. 3M-5200 is very slow to cure.

If you make a transducer mounting plate from certain ultra-high molecular weight plastics or non-polar plastic materials, they are difficult to bond with normal adhesives. You may want to use a mechanical fastener to hold the transducer plate to the transom, in addition to other adhesives
