Daily I make my way over the snow and into the boat pulling off teak for refinishing. Now into the cabin where a satin finish is going on the cabenetry and the headliner has become the sore thumb. It's brittle acouple of tears and not meeting my standards of a complete refit. I have called Sue at Twin Cities the product is no longer available , I can't even find the original supplier. It looks to be an easy replacement with the use of heavy material but I want the OEM look. Any thoughts on where to go ? I need this snow gone now ! Way too much, drives one crazy with boxes of new parts awaiting proper mounting and acouple of a new Big Black engines to be hung. |

Great question. Mine is in pretty good shape overall, with a few small stains, but it does appear to be getting brittle. I wonder if Chuck Bennett might be able to locate an old record of a transaction with the OEM Supplier? What does Whaler use on their new boats? I'm changing my upholstery on the new cushions anyway (thicker, firmer foam), so I'd been considering just going with a thin foam and covering it with a canvas type of material - perhaps even the "toast" covered Sunbrella, due to the stain-resistant properties of the fabric. Not there yet on my refit, however, so I hope to benefit from what you find and report back via this thread. Good luck! Dave |

Dave - We're looking at adding a custom cushion set to the forward platform, using the tan OEM ribbed/brown piping of that era on one side and some sort of fabric, canvas or Sunbrella on the other. Reasoning is that I hate sleeping on plastic, and would turn the set over for nighttime. Don |

I've always thought that the headliner would be a difficult item to replace, and I've worked hard to keep mine in nice shape. If you find something similar, please post to this thread. Don, I think one of the very nice features of the OEM cushions in my Outrage Cuddy is that they have the parchment vinyl on one side, and fabric on the other. The vinyl is durable and stain resistant, and endures whatever my fishing gear and kids throw at it. Sadly, the "timeless plaid fabric" on the other side has succumbed to dry rot and is in need of replacement. I'm hopeful that when I invest in new (thicker!) cushions, I can have something similar made. Perhaps the original vinyl will be in good enough shape to be reused. As for the cloth side, I will do a careful analysis of the most common stains, and chose the color of Sunbrella fabric that matches them the best. |

Took me a few years to build up the nerve to move ahead but I am now about complete. The old headliner came off in three sections about four feet wide and was seamed across the boat. What is underneath is a mess. The old headliner must have had a foam backing that turned to dust over time. Cleaning and prep of the surface was a nightmare as the surface is raw glass uneven and filthy. Cleaning was ackomplished with a sander and alot of acetone. [url]http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b556/1982Revenge/gutted_zpsec9f1521.jpg[\url] My new headliner was installed in two sections with the seam centerline. I did this as the contours that needed to be covered appeared too difficult to attempt to cover side to side and seaming the liner was my greatest concern. Started aft and moved foward process was slow useing 3M contact cement. Still along way to go but am pleased with the new look. http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b556/1982Revenge/ headliner_zpsa061ccc3.jpg |

Nice work! This is a topic I have waited a long time for someone here to write about, so kudos to you. This is a common project need for those of us with an express or cuddy model we intend to keep for the long haul. |

Sounds like a ton of work but well worth it... Your new headliner looks fantastic!!! What did you eventually find for the material? And who did you purchase it from? Well done, |
| jamesmylesmcp |
Norm, source was www.yourautotrim.com material is 72" Marine Hulliner 'Sand Beige'. Used 8 yards. Bought it back in 2011 but fear got the best of me. |

Nice work. Did you have to make any pleats or darts, or were you able to get the material to conform to the contour of the cabin ceiling? Did you use any type of insulating material under the headliner, or is it integrated into the material? |

Andy no darts or pleats the material conforms to contours easily. I used no insulation only the material. The original headliner appeared to have been placed before the cap was attached as it expended deep into the seams where hull and cap come together. |

James Thanks for the information regarding the headliner material, I will be purchasing the same material for my 1990 22 Revenge W/T... Norm |
