My recently-aquired 1975 Outrage 21 has a power trim pump mounted to the deck immediately outboard of the battery (which is located in the standard position under the starboard hatch of the rear seat). Unfortunately, it is only mounted with one loose screw. Does this deck area have a wood backing that allows proper mounting with additional screws? I intend to drill the holes oversize, fill with Marine-Tex, and then drill to the proper fastener diameter. |

Kmev--I had the same problem with my 1973 Outrage. Is it mounted in the area between the hatch and the hull, right where it's [difficult] to work in? If so, let me find a photo, and I'll email you a link to it on how I solved the problem. Regards - Don |

Thanks for the link to the diagram, Tom - that was extremely helpful. Don, I am also interested to see your solution. You've got a nicely set up boat. Keith |

Keith-- Thanks! What I did was as follows: Drilled an over sized hole in the place I needed to mount a Mercury power tilt-trim unit. I don't remember hitting wood there (aside: Tom Clark--is there wood in the deck area, slightly aft of the small starboard hatch, under the gunnel area?). I used a nail, bent at 90 degrees to chop up the foam and vacuumed out the debris. Mixed up some slow-cure epoxy and poured a small amount in and placed a barrel nut of the proper size, upside down in the mix, then poured in the rest to level with the deck. Here's what it looked like: I sized the nut so it would fit inside the mounting hole of the trim bracket, and left it high enough in the epoxy so that it would fit. Here's a shot with a washer and bolt inserted: Only trick was it was a bit of a cramped space, and two years later I re-powered with an engine that had an internal tilt-trim unit. Best - Don |

Don - thank you. That is a clever way to mount the pump, but I know there is a Honda repower my distant future, so I am reluctant to embed steel within the deck that is not easily removable. I did take time to peruse the rest of your photo album. I really like a lot of what you've done to the boat - especially mounting the fuel filter under the gunnel behind a beckson plate. I don't see any mounting bolts, however - is the filter's mount somehow associated with the antenna mount? |

Umm no. Small scrap of mahogany, epoxyed to the inside, then the filter attached using wood screws. Out of the way, yet visible. Regards - Don |
