I had a bottle of DEET (insect repellant) leak out inside my console. Amongst other things it managed to soften the cover of my Lowrance sounder/gps (white plastic cover). It has usually been my experience that plastic softened by DEET will eventually harden up if wiped down and left to cure, but in this case it's not happening.Does anyone have any suggestions (beyond replacing the cover)? TIA, Paul

I had a watch crystal trashed by deet. I then read the directions and they said that may happen.Con |

I does well on skin, keeps the skeeters off it. Just lightly wash your palms in the water after applying to keep it off everything you touch. I used to use 100% DEET repellents in northern Manitoba all summer long (for over ten years of grad work) in an area known to have mosquitoes as large as small birds and it worked well keeping them away. Careless folks would melt their binos, watches, eyeglass frames, etc, but I never had any problems unless a bottle cap came loose and melted stuff in your backpack. Somehow this bottle got loose and even though it was stowed inside a plastic bag it lifted half the paint inside the console floor, destroyed numerous lures, melted a screwdriver handle, and mucked up my sounder cover. I'll just dig out my old sounder from the other rig and use the cover from that till this one "cures". |
