I am in the final stages of my 19 Raider project and am looking for some suggestions as to where to mount my navigation lights. The TPWD (Texas Park and Wildlife Division)states that I have to have my Port/Starboard lights on the bow. Unlike the Outrage or Guardian, my Raider does not have any wiring forward of the console. Nor does it have a bow rail (as of yet). The easiest way is to mount the navigation lights to the sides of my console but with the way TPWD and the Coasties are around here, I do not want to give them a reason to pull me over for giggles (like driving around at night with a single brake light out). |

Tell them your problem, that you have no factory wires on the side of your boat nor in the bow and no cavity to work in, Tell them if it is ok to mount the nav. lights on the side of the console...Two things. When you talk to the TPWD tell them what you are doing to meet the requirements do not ask them, Second I feel you would be in more trouble not having lights then having them in the wrong place,(which is/would be questionable) Its all how you present your case....good luck... PS I'm in Florida last year I mounted my nav. lights on the side of my console (16'7'' whaler), I chose the new Atwood low voltage leds...good luck |

Thanks for the recommendation contender. Maybe I could run a wire through the side panel thats covering the fuel line and up through the bow rail (If I ever get one) Worst comes to worst, I could mount one of those flashlight nav lights to the bow with some Velcro to make do. Not all officers of the law are d*** but Murphy and I must be long lost relatives. |

I see nothing in Title 33 USC that requires red and green sidelights to be mounted at the bow. They stipulate that they must be visible in a certain arc, but not where on the boat they are mounted. Do it USCG legal, and you aren't going to get hassled. |

Good point. Federal Trumps State (except in California) Here's the link: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat/boat/safety/vessel_requirements/ |

If the sidelights are not combined at the bow, the masthead light and sternlight must be on centerline. If a combined sidelight is used at the bow, a white all-round light can be shown from off-center. If separate red and green sidelights are used, you should be certain the masthead and sternlight or white all-round light are on centerline to be strictly compliant. |

On our 22 Guardian (may have actually been a raider) we had the red and green Nav lights mounted to the sides of the console with the white masthead and stern light mounted on the centerline. That said it is easy to run the wires forward under the rubrail for bow mounted lights. |
